Canada Study Visa 2026: Process, Documents & Funds
What Punjabi students need to know before applying this year.
Canada remains one of the most popular study destinations for students from Punjab — but the rules have changed significantly since 2024. Here is what the process actually looks like in 2026. For a full document checklist and how we help in Punjab, see our Study in Canada page — this guide focuses specifically on what changed in the process.
What changed for Canada study permits in 2026?

- Proof of funds is now CAD 23,448 per year of living expenses for applications made on or after 1 September 2026 (one applicant, outside Quebec; it was CAD 22,895 before that) — tuition and transport are extra. Frequently asked questions
Is IELTS mandatory for Canada?
Most DLIs and visa officers expect proof of English. IELTS is the most widely used, but PTE Academic has also been accepted for Canadian study permits since 2023. Required scores vary by programme.
Can my visa be guaranteed?
No — no consultant can guarantee a visa. Approval is decided solely by IRCC. We help in Punjab with admission and with collecting documents against IRCC's checklist. Visa Connection is not a licensed Canadian (RCIC) immigration adviser.
What about after graduation?
Many graduates qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), but field-of-study rules now apply to some college programmes. Check your programme against IRCC's own PGWP field-of-study list and designated learning institutions (DLI) list before you apply.
