Basic Eligibility

What is usually required

  • A genuine academic background suited to your chosen course
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS/PTE), where required
  • Genuine funds to support tuition and living costs
  • A valid passport and clean, honest documentation
Proof of funds

How much money must you show for a Swedish student residence permit?

Sweden sets a monthly maintenance figure and multiplies it by the length of your permit — but it accepts a wider range of proof than Finland does.

  • SEK 10,656 per month — roughly SEK 127,872 for one year, or SEK 255,744 for two
  • Proof can be bank statements, scholarships, employment income, student grants or loans, or a sponsorship letter
  • Free housing reduces the monthly figure by SEK 4,736; free food reduces it by SEK 2,960
  • Bringing family? Add SEK 4,440 per month per adult and SEK 2,664 per month per child

Because Sweden accepts scholarships and loans as proof, a file that cannot meet Finland’s funding rule may still meet Sweden’s — which is exactly why we do not treat the two as interchangeable. That is about the funding rule only; the decision itself always rests with the authority.

Figures are set by the Swedish Migration Agency and change from time to time — we confirm the current amount at your consultation.

FAQ

Study in Sweden — FAQs

What documents are needed to study in Sweden?

Typically academic records, English test scores (IELTS/PTE), genuine financial documents, a valid passport and an admission or offer letter. Exact requirements vary by institution.

What are the main intakes for Sweden?

Sweden's main intake is August, with some programmes starting in January.

Can I work after studying in Sweden?

Yes — graduates can apply for a residence permit to look for work or explore business options.

Do you guarantee a Sweden study visa?

No. The decision rests solely with the visa authority. We focus on honest guidance and thorough, accurate documentation.

How does Visa Connection help?

We assess your profile, shortlist genuine programmes, prepare and cross-check your documents, and support your application every step of the way.

Does a scholarship count towards the Swedish maintenance requirement?

Yes. The Swedish Migration Agency accepts scholarships, student grants or loans, employment income and sponsorship letters alongside bank statements. This is a genuine difference from Finland, which wants independent funds in your account up front and will not count work income for the first year.
