I.C.NAGOYA runs one programme — the Japanese Comprehensive Course — built around reading, listening, writing and speaking. It suits students planning to move on to a Japanese university or vocational school, those aiming to work in Japan, and anyone who wants Japanese solid enough for daily life.

Courses

• Level 1–2 — Elementary. Pronunciation, hiragana, katakana, basic kanji and respectful grammar, to the point of managing daily life
• Level 3 — Pre-Intermediate. Expressing simple phrases to suit the situation, plus the groundwork for intermediate study
• Level 4–5 — Intermediate. Vocabulary and grammar through topics beyond daily life, expressed more naturally and accurately
• Level 6–7 — Pre-Advanced. Advanced vocabulary and complex expressions for a wide range of situations
• Level 8–9 — Advanced. Expressions drawn from every field, including current affairs, enough to follow university lectures
• Each level takes three months, and your starting level is set by written and oral tests. Not every level runs in every entry month.

Entry requirements

• Completion of 12 years of education, or an equivalent I.C.NAGOYA accepts
• A clear and proper purpose for studying Japanese
• A financial statement showing funds sufficient to cover the whole course
• A JLPT or J-TEST certificate may be requested — it is not automatic

Intakes

Four entry months: April, July, October and January. Course length depends on when you enter and whether you finish in March or September — it runs 1 year 3 months, 1 year 6 months, 1 year 9 months, or 2 years. Application windows for the coming intakes: January 2027 — 8 June to 11 September 2026; April 2027 — 6 July to 30 October 2026; July 2027 — 2 November 2026 to 5 March 2027. The school adds that if you cannot meet a deadline you should talk to them, and that deadlines can move if the Immigration Office changes its policy.

How you apply

1. Application documents submitted — through a guarantor in Japan if you have one, otherwise directly or through a local agent
2. Documentary screening, with an interview possible
3. I.C.NAGOYA applies to the Immigration Office for the Certificate of Eligibility
4. The Immigration result is announced about one month before entry
5. Admission fee and tuition paid
6. Certificate of Eligibility and Certificate of Admission issued
7. You apply for the student visa at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your own country

Documents and attestation

You prepare the application for admission, a statement of your specific reasons for studying in Japan, a health certificate, your graduation certificate or diploma and transcript from your last school, any Japanese language study or exam certificate, six photographs at 4cm × 3cm, and a copy of your passport and ID. Your financial supporter provides a financial support form, a certificate of employment — or a certified copy of the company registry if they are a director, or a business licence if self-employed — certificates of annual income for the latest three years, and an account balance certificate covering the latest one year. That three-year income history is heavier than most destinations ask for, so start collecting it early. Submitted documents are not returned, apart from originals such as school diplomas.

Worth knowing before you commit

• Classes run Monday to Friday, with a morning session 09:00–12:40 or an afternoon session 13:10–16:50 depending on level. No classes on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays or Golden Week.
• Capacity is 320 students with a maximum of 20 in each class.
• Part-time work is capped at 28 hours a week and only with immigration permission.
• Dormitory priority goes to applicants who have no guarantor in Japan — an advantage applying from India, but it must be requested at application time, not later.
• National Health Insurance and accident insurance are both compulsory.
• If any document is found to be false, the admission can be cancelled.
